We introduce two multilingual, multimodal foundation language models that power Apple Intelligence features across Apple devices and services: i a 3B-parameter on-device model optimized for Apple silicon through architectural innovations such as KV-cache sharing and 2-bit quantization-aware training; and ii a scalable server model built on a novel Parallel-Track Mixture-of-Experts PT-MoE transformer that combines track parallelism, mixture-of-experts sparse computation, and interleaved global-local attention to deliver high quality with competitive cost on Apple's Private Cloud Compute platform. Both models are trained on large-scale multilingual and multimodal datasets sourced via responsible web crawling, licensed corpora, and high-quality synthetic data, then further refined with supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning on a new asynchronous platform. The resulting models support several additional languages while understanding images and executing tool calls. In public benchmarks and human evaluations, both the server model and the on-device model match or surpass comparably sized open baselines. A new Swift-centric Foundation Models framework exposes guided generation, constrained tool calling, and LoRA adapter fine-tuning, allowing developers to integrate these capabilities with a few lines of code. The latest advancements in Apple Intelligence models are grounded in our Responsible AI approach with safeguards like content filtering and locale-specific evaluation, as well as our commitment to protecting our users' privacy with innovations like Private Cloud Compute.

iPhone 16 Pro longterm review: While Apple Intelligence underwhelms, Camera Control fits right in
When we reviewed the iPhone 16 Pro last year, Apple Intelligence was barely available. Since then, the iPhone 16 series has benefitted from several new features, apps and improvements. Some (or most) of them were Apple Intelligence features that were teased back at WWDC 2024, months before the iPhone 16 Pro launched. AI features weren't the only changes this time around, with the iPhone 16 getting an entirely new button. The so-called Camera Control wasn't just a simple app shortcut, but an elaborate multifunction button that offered a haptic half-press and the ability to swipe across to adjust camera settings and options.
The iPhone 15 Pro will get Visual Intelligence with iOS 18.4
What started as an Apple Intelligence feature exclusive to the Camera Control-endowed iPhone 16 line is coming to older iPhones, and soon. We already knew that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max would get Visual Intelligence at some point in the future, and thanks to 9to5Mac, we now know it's one of several options you can assign to the Action Button in the second iOS 18.4 beta. That likely means the feature could end up in the final release of the update. Visual Intelligence lets you draw on AI models from Google and OpenAI to find information (and websites) about anything you point your iPhone's camera at. You can also use the feature to add information from a flyer to your calendar and oddly, identify dog breeds.

Vision Pro will reportedly get Apple Intelligence as soon as April
Apple Vision Pro may soon get an update bringing Apple Intelligence to the headset, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The first Apple Intelligence features started rolling out to iPhone, iPad and Mac in the fall, bringing features like notification summaries, ChatGPT integration for Siri and Genmoji over the last few months. But Apple's AI hasn't yet made it to the Vision Pro. According to Mark Gurman, that may change with the visionOS 2.4 update, which sources said may arrive in April with Apple Intelligence and a new app for viewing spatial media like 3D images and panoramas. The first Apple Intelligence features to come to Vision Pro will reportedly include Writing Tools, Genmoji and Image Playground.

Update your iPhone NOW: Apple releases iOS 18.3 with urgent security fixes - here's how to download it on your device
They are some of the world's most popular smartphones. But if you have an iPhone, make sure to update your device as soon as possible. Apple has released iOS 18.3, with urgent security updates to protect your phone from hackers. This includes a patch for one vulnerability that criminals have already been using to hijack iPhones. Sylvain Cortes, VP of Strategy at Hackuity, says: 'To safeguard against these threats, we'd strongly recommend users to promptly update their devices to iOS 18.3.'

How to use Visual Intelligence, Apple's take on Google Lens
The recent rollout of iOS 18.2 finally brings many of the promised Apple Intelligence features, like Genmoji and Image Playground. One such long-awaited tool is Visual Intelligence, a feature currently reserved for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max that was first introduced at the company's September event. Visual Intelligence is Apple's answer to Google Lens. It leverages the camera system and AI to analyze images in real-time and provide useful information. This can help people learn more about the world around them and is particularly handy for shopping, looking up details about a restaurant or business, translating written text, summarizing text or having something read aloud.

iOS 18.2 is here with Apple Intelligence image generation features in tow
Apple has begun rolling iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 to iPhones and iPads. The updates bring with them major enhancements to the company's suite of AI features, and are likely the final software releases Apple has planned for 2024. More Apple Intelligence features are available through macOS 15.2. However, note access to all of the AI features mentioned below is limited to users in the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK for now, with support additionally limited to devices with their language set to English. Provided you own an iPhone 15 Pro, 16 or 16 Pro, one of the highlights of iOS 18.2 is Image Playground, which is available both as a standalone app and Messages extension.

Update your iPhone NOW: Apple releases iOS 18.1.1 with 'important security fixes' - here's how to install it on your device
Apple has released its latest iOS 18.1.1 In a post on its security website, the tech giant says the update fixes two vulnerabilities which have already been'actively exploited' by hackers. According to security experts, these bugs could be used to remotely compromise a user's device and even gain access to their online accounts. While the security weaknesses have only been exploited on Mac so far, waiting too long could leave your iPhone vulnerable to being hacked. Michael Covington, VP of strategy at cybersecurity firm Jamf, says: 'The fixes provided by Apple introduce stronger checks to detect and prevent malicious activity, as well as improve how devices manage and track data during web browsing.

iPhone expert tests Apple Intelligence features on iOS 18 - then AI does something odd with his text messages
Apple's Mail got a little smarter with Apple Intelligence, adding functions including Priority Messages and Smart Reply - although in all honesty, it's still not the best email app out there. Messaging apps and email now have summaries auto-generated from content - although they are often unusual. Many of the summaries seem to bear little relation to what is actually in my Inbox - one simply said, 'Saucy line needs reordering'. Another said that Chris who I was emailing had failed his driving test and then got a speeding ticket - which would have been difficult after failing the test - when Chris had not taken any form of driving test. Priority Messages picks messages you might be interested in and places them at the top of your inbox (they're sorted by, for example, whether they sound time-sensitive).

iPhone users urged to download iOS 18.1 TODAY or risk being hacked - here's how to get latest software
Apple is set to launch its new iOS 18.1 that will include the long-awaited AI feature and several security fixes for iPhones running on the previous version. CEO Tim Cook has touted Apple Intelligence as'a new chapter of innovation,' focusing on'generative' AI models that enable users to create text or images from prompts. The system will have the ability to create'Genmojis,' new emoji characters based on text prompts in iMessage, edit photos and include a revamped Siri with better conversational skills. The new iOS 18 system is set to hit smartphones at 1pm ET, but only the iPhone 16 family and high-end 15 devices support Apple Intelligence. There is also a waitlist for the AI feature and users can claim their spot after downloading the update.
